Why was this technology developed?

Laser light sources have become indispensable in many metrology applications. More and more, the range of applications is being extended from traditional measurement technology to lighting technology, where high homogeneity over the complete beam range is a central requirement.
Multicolour laser light sources are confronted with the challenge to convert the different emission characteristics of the individual laser diodes into a homogeneous emission profile at the light output. Smallest power variations immediately result in different colour areas. The consequences are circular colour variations and insufficient homogeneity.

How has the problem been solved until today?
